Disability Policy - Support for Students and Applicants

triOS College recognizes its responsibility for accommodating the disability-related needs of students up to the point of undue hardship and is committed to providing an equal and inclusive environment. A determination as to whether a proposed accommodation would cause undue hardship within the meaning of the Code will vary depending on the circumstances of each accommodation request and will be considered on a case-by-case basis. This determination will take into account a number of variable factors including, but not limited to:
A. the cost of the proposed accommodation;
B. the likely impact of the proposed accommodation on triOS College’s financial position and budgets;
C. the availability to triOS College of grants, subsidies, tax deductions, government benefits and other outside sources of funding, including funds that my be available to the student only, through government programs or otherwise, that (i) are linked to the student’s disability, (ii) would assist triOS College in defraying the costs of accommodation, and (iii) triOS is entitled to use for this purpose, and;
D. whether the nature or delivery of education programs and services for all students would be substantially and permanently altered.
triOS College will assist in providing accommodation to deaf or hard of hearing students that may include paying all or some of the cost of sign language interpretation, where that form of accommodation may be needed by a particular individual and will not cause undue hardship. triOS College agrees with the Ontario Human Rights Commission that providing sign language interpretation to deaf or hard of hearing students may not be the most appropriate form of accommodation in all circumstances. In a particular case, triOS College will assess the request for accommodation to consider if it will cause undue financial hardship. triOS College will explore the next best accommodation solution to provide the most appropriate accommodation that would not cause undue hardship.
